Kissing Your Sister

Apologies to some of the regular users (I use the word advisedly) of this blog who have noticed that I haven't posted much in the past two weeks.

Truth is that I had been doing some other writing about sailing during that time. A writing assignment that could potentially have led to a regular paid job writing about sailing on the web. Things were going along fine. My prospective employers seemed to like the stuff I was producing. But my heart wasn't in it. I felt like I was living in a box. I had to adopt a more serious voice, less irreverent, more informative, less quirky, more educational... No way could I have posted about Fish at Chicks or other similar utter nonsense in that place.

So I told "the man" that I wasn't interested. I was searching for a simile to describe why that other assignment wasn't working out. I could go through the motions. I could do what was required. But my heart wasn't in it. There was no excitement. No frisson.

Ah yes. It was like kissing your sister.

So now I'm back with my old lady, Proper Course, with whom I can flirt, experiment, confide, rant, complain, exult, be silly, be crazy, have fun...

This must have been a hell of a tough decision but it's so bloody right. IMHO, the best content about sailing is on blogs like yours. It's depressing how bad a job the traditional media have done online especially in sailing. Keep doing what you love Tillerman.

I have had a similar experience. I concluded that if the reason I would work for money was so I'd be able to do more of what I love to do, cutting out writing for marginal profit was a more efficient way to get to the fun. Better velocity made good towards a grin.

Rightly said peconicpuffin!

Tillerman, glad you are back and come on, let if flow!
Utterly nonsense or things which make sense! We just love it and it motivates to put something to paper as well. Never as polished as yours but always from the heart.

Welcome back Tillerman was wondering about the silence.

Must have been a difficult decision, though you'd have though they would have liked a less structured approach?

Aren't you retired? Stay retired, write for fun.

Besides if they were looking for tillerman (not whatever your real name is) they'd have just sponsored Proper Course. They wanted someone different.
