Baydog was in Rhode Island on Friday and he and I enjoyed a late lunch together in Newport on Friday afternoon. Someone local had told him he had to try "Stuffies" while he was here and so we did... (among a few other things and a couple of glasses of a local brew.)
Stuffies (baked stuffed quahogs) are a Rhode Island local tradition. And quahogs, in case you don't speak Narragansett, are very large clams (preferably from a very small state.)
The picture is not actually of the stuffies that Baydog and I consumed on Friday. Ours were even better than that.
I immediately blurted out, "Oohh, Jesus, those look good" and it sounded kinda mumbled because the saliva glands were firing off in my mouth like a shoal of bivalves.
I have to admit - I thought about stopping in Tiverton for lunch on the drive up to Cape Cod - but Evelyn's was closed for the season. Should've realized that Evelyn's wouldn't be the only lunch option!
BTW had we been early enough for Evelyn's I would've let you know. As it was, I didn't want to bother you with trying to meet up; on both the trip up and the trip down, we were passing through your area in the middle of the day, at a time I figured you would probably want to be out sailing (I know how precious these fall weekends are).
Contrary to what you might think from reading this blog, I don't actually sail every day of the week, or even every weekend. At this time of the year a chance to meet up for lunch or dinner with a blogging friend is usually much more enticing than a chance to get wet and cold on my Laser.

Can't get'em down here.

I thought stuffies were potato skins
Well, you learned one thing on your trip to Rhode Island.
More than one thing
Are those quahogs? God, they look delicious.
Something else we missed on our trip to the Cape & another reason to go back!

And that's my really bad metaphor for the day.
Lovely Day!
Oh my, we missed out.

Well, I will not be so shy next time & maybe we can go find some of those stuffies (if not Evelyn's lobster rolls)!
