I suspect the crew just mounted a camera and left it at that. Or -- the footage was simply given to the Lake TV folks to broadcast as a cautionary tale.
What is the skipper doing with his left hand just as everything goes south? It looks like he hits the throttles by accident from the initial wave, then tries to correct, then... nothing?
This restaurant must have had a relaxed dress code. I like mom's belly button chain. Funny, I wasn't the only one using the word 'idiot' in the comments...They're lucky someone didn't get impaled by a broken beer bottle. At 60-70 mph.
I'm not personally familiar with the technique for driving a speedboat at 60-70 mph through a rogue wave, but I did also notice that the skipper was doing weird stuff with the throttle. Can anyone explain what he was trying to do?
I would think a knowledgeable person would work the throttle through the waves (much like working a mainsheet). However, I think a knowledgeable person probably wouldn't have been going as fast either.

Um,....are you wondering what I'm wondering?
I am wondering what it is that you are wondering I am wondering that you are wondering.
What happened to the Lake TV crew? And why the F were they filming these idiots?

THere is also a video interview with the owner of Lake TV explaining more about what happened after the accident and why they were filming in the first place. http://www.rightthisminute.com/video/rtm-exclusive-update-speedboat-accident-missouri

He was doing weird stuff because he didn't know what he was doing.
Oh. I guess that's a good enough reason. I do that sometimes too.

What is the recommended technique for "working" the throttle through the waves?
Do some restaurants have a dress code that frowns on belly button chains?
God I hope so.
Madame, I must ask you to tuck in your belly button chain, please.
Where would you like me to tuck it, Sir?
Beats the hell out of me.
If this craft had swamped and sank, I would consider this event as a good start. (As long as all aboard survived, of course.)
I knew I recognized the driver from somewhere.
This could explain his twitchy hand on the throttle.
