Al Maktoum Family Wins Yacht Race... Again

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Congratulations to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Monarch of Dubai, Chairman of the Investment Corporation of Dubai which owns the Emirates Group which owns Emirates Airline which is the title sponsor of that red and black boat which won the second race in the Louis Vuitton Round Robin Series in San Francisco today in a thrilling race against... well, nobody. Again.

Congratulations also to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum who is President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of the Emirates Group, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline. By an amazing coincidence, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum is the uncle of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (even though he is nine years his junior.)

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum

I bet Mohammed and Ahmed are thrilled that their boat won its race today and now leads the series 2-0 on account of nobody has yet showed up to race against them.

I wonder how they are celebrating?

I wish the organizers had gone with your original idea of having Larry and the other billionaires sail Lasers. Now that would have been a sight to see.

We had the kids racing last week in their Optis. That gave me more thrills than seeing a lone behemoth zip across the Bay.

Like and acknowledge. I've been saying it all along.

Sheikh Ahmed (the younger uncle) looks amazingly like George Clooney. Chop off the tip of his nose and he is a dead ringer!

How could the billionaires screw it up so badly? Well, let's review how they BECAME billionaires. One of them used all his skill and cunning to be born in exactly the right place, to exactly the right family, who made their money by accidently living on top of a whole bunch of very old black gooey liquid. Now, THAT took some skill!

And the other developed something that practically no one understands, but they still bought a lot of it.

Now you know.

Come to think of it, Sheikh Mohammed (the older nephew) looks like Al Pacino. Again, you have to refine the nose in your mind.

Maybe its because the Kiwis are so good that everyone else is too scared to race....... hmmm wasn't that the case in the first AC over 100yrs ago?? Just saying...... go KIWIS! "History never repeats" - a song by Split Enz - a 70s Kiwi band.

I don't think you can blame Mohammed and Ahmed for screwing up the America's Cup. That is entirely down to Larry and the people he appointed.

They are both very handsome fellows and look like the kind of guys you would want to go Laser racing with.

So true. Watching some kids having fun racing their Optimists or Sunfish (or Lasers) is way more interesting than watching some boats paid for by billionaires like Larry Ellison or Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum sail races by themselves.

Yes, baseball is better than cricket.

What? UAE won the first AC because everyone else was scared to race them? I will have to check the history books but that doesn't sound quite right.

How can you say that with the Ashes just started! 1st test - 5 days of nerve jangling fun - sudden twists and turns every 3 hours :)
