Bravo to Doc and Dave for their wordless comments to my wordless post. But I was fearing that they might have started a trend which would never end.
Thanks to Luke for his two wordless comments which still managed to convey his puzzlement.
And big thanks to Sam for breaking the wordless streak and thereby giving me the freedom to babble on at will...
The picture, for those who didn't already know, is of Robert Scheidt at the opening ceremony of the Laser Worlds in Oman a few days ago. Hence the palm trees.
Robert is sometimes described as the best Laser sailor of all time, having won 8 Laser world championships, and 3 Olympic medals (2 gold and 1 silver) in Lasers. (By comparison, the great Ben Ainslie has "only" won 2 Laser world championships and 1 gold and 1 silver medal in Lasers at the Olympics.)
But Laser sailing is a young man's game and Robert moved on the the Star Class where he has won 3 Worlds and another Olympic silver medal. His last Laser World Championship was 8 years ago.
He is 40 now, a Laser "Master" like me. Well, not quite like me. I am a few years older than him.
The next Olympics will be in Robert's native Brazil in 2016. But the Star Class will not be in those Olympics. So Robert is now sailing Lasers again. He wants to win a gold medal at the Olympics in his home country.
So he qualified to sail for Brazil in this year's Laser Worlds. (I'm only guessing he had to qualify. Maybe not. Maybe as a Laser demi-god he gets a free pass?)
How is he doing against all the young hotshots at the Laser Worlds? After the 4 days of qualifying races he is leading by 5 points with 4 wins in 8 races.

Woo hoo! I'm rooting for the old guy.
Do you understand it now Sam?
I initially thought the guy died and you were searching for words... Don't do that to me, Tillerman!
Oh, man! Oman.
The guy died Baydog? Is this heaven? No, it's Oman.
