“If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing.
If she's worth it, you won't give up. If you give up, you're not worthy."
- Bob Marley
Quote and suggestion that it could apply to boats shamelessly stolen from H2uho - Bonehead Moves on the Water. Picture shamelessly stolen from Laser Center, Cabarete. The photo is of a typical situation near the leeward mark during the 5th Caribbean Laser Midwinters Regatta 2007, which was also reported on this blog at Broken Record.

Eleven hours and still no snide comment from O Dock regarding capsizing?
He has obviously been so moved by the stirring words of Mr. Marley that he has gone out and bought himself a Laser.
This picture reminds me that in my youth I was a competetive swimmer. A talent I find invaluable when 'sailing' my laser.
This photo gets the adrenaline going!
It sure does meech. The guy on the right hanging on to his daggerboard isn't me, I don't think, but it could well be. I spent a lot of time in that position on that day.
I really do like that Marley quote as applied to Laser sailing. I need to be reminded from time to time that it's a good thing that sailing a Laser isn't always easy, and that there is a good reason for not giving up.
Into every life some capsizing must fall, Baydog.
I think Laser sailors may may be choosing to deal with life's capsizing on their own terms - rather than be capsized at an unsuspecting moment. When they leave the beach, it's with the knowledge that the prospect of capsizing is now upon them and they must be ready. This will be their finest hour or their worst, but they've chosen the time.
When they return to the beach, win or lose, their demons are behind them, and only home, hearth, and beer lie ahead.
I understand why Tillerman sailed a Laser.
Huh? What does that mean? Why the past tense? I do still sail a Laser. 58 times this year so far.
T Mon,
58 times, wot dat? dey be 365 daze inna da year.
IRIE MON !!
Have you seen that following her retirement from the Vendee Globe Sam Davies now sails a laser! Great picture of her on the Vendee Globe Webiste in her IMOCA 60 jury rigged with a donated laser sail!
Thanks for the tip BlueVark. Here is a link to the page and photo.
