Dear Tillerwoman, what I want for Christmas is...
Yes, I know we said we wouldn't buy each other expensive gifts this Xmas, but I really think it's time I moved up to a boat that's a bit bigger than my Laser.
This Volvo Open 70, "Puma Avanti II" (Puma training boat and formerly "ABN AMRO 2") would be an ideal training boat for a future campaign, or maybe I could even use her for corporate work. She comes complete with a full VOR 70 sail inventory and containerized workshop. She gained the longest distance run in 24 hours by a monohull clocking 563 nautical miles, an average of 23.4 knots of speed! She is listed at $845,538 and is currently just down the road at the Newport Shipyard. Maybe you could go and check her out when the snow stops?
Just a suggestion. Really, another diary would be just as much appreciated.
By the way, what would you like for Christmas dear?

Containerized workshop!? That's a deal. Tillerwoman, this way the maintenance is practically paid for already. Tillerman, brilliant, because it's a boat and a workshop all in one. Clearly, it's a win-win proposal.
Exactly. What woman could resist a "containerized workshop"? I could even use it to fix her household appliances etc.
At 23.4 knots, you could sail to the BVI's in a few days and then stay on the boat. Think of all the money you'd save on airfare and hotel expenses!
This boat would pay for itself in no time.
Rhode Island to the BVI's in a few days has one teensy eensy problem: the Thorny Path. (An upwind slog in the Christmas winds may not exactly be pleasant in a racing machine.)
But, there's always a solution: hire some poor deserving sailing fellow bloggers to deliver your boat.
I considered that, Pat, but figured Tillerman wouldn't have much trouble finding crew to help him. Of course, he'd want people with some keelboat experience.
What do you mean "keelboat experience"? It's just a big Laser isn't it? I mean, how hard could it be?
Oh,not too horribly hard just so long as you make sure to break yourself of the habit of sailing boats upside down.
