These misspelled signs intrigue me - not because someone made a spelling mistake as we all do that from time to time - but because I can't quite figure how someone gets to the point of standing in public with a sign like that.
Didn't she ever notice the mistake? Didn't any of her fellow protesters notice and tell her? Doesn't she care?
Yeah. It's the kind of mistake that's easy to miss, especially when the correct version has been so much part of the public discourse in the US over the last few months.
But didn't anyone in this crowd notice and have the decency to point it out to this young lady? Are they all morans?
Here's my modest proposal: That we re-brand our public education system as a socialist education. We should clearly leave it up to the free market and competition to drive prices down, as evidenced by the excellent value for money and stringent cost controls at our nation's glorious and imminently affordable private colleges and universities.
It has also occurred to me Doc that all these people with the misspelled signs may not be as dumb as they look. Possible theories for why they might be deliberate misspellings include...
a) your theory. Pretending to be real people as opposed to tools of the corporations funding their "movement".
b) distancing themselves from the "liberal elite" aka as people who can spell properly and pronounce "nuclear" properly.
c) a subtle way to get people to notice and/or remember their sign. If you spot the misspelling you register it more strongly.
d) a deliberate ploy to have their signs re-published on the Internet by pedants like me who think bad spelling is funny.

Funny. I'm fairly obsessed with spelling but I read the title to your post yesterday and didn't catch the mistake until I read her sign.

Aren't some of our favorite tugboats Morans? And, with modern electronic control systems, how do they compare with some of the sign caddies?
