300,000

Congratulations to the 300,000th visitor to this blog (or at least the 300,000th since I turned sitemeter on.) He or she checked in from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil at 3:15pm their time today and left a couple of minutes later to read that story about John Lennon's sailing adventure. If you would like to identify yourself I will buy you a caipirinha next time I am in Rio.

Breaking news: The mystery 300,000th visitor just sent me an email. He usually sails Snipes and Solings, and doesn't live in Rio but about 400 km north which is where the Brazilian Laser Nationals will be in January.

Hmmm.... January, Lasers, sunshine, wind, Brazil, caipirinhas... tempting.

Tillerman: Do you muddle the sugar with lime, or are you a simple syrup person? Great after-sailing drink(s).

Caipirinhas are a lot of work to make, and they go down so fast. I like mine at a bar (in Rio) made by professionals. Of course my arm can be twisted by the earnest amateur...

Meanwhile a windsurfing friend of mine has a boat named Caipirinha. It's a gas-guzzling Chris Craft, however.

But this is all off the point...here's to your 300K!

I'm with you Puffin. I never make caipirinhas myself. I only drink them in Brazil. And I leave the making to the professionals. I don't really know or care how they make them. I just know that two rounds in a bar before dinner means it's going to be a very good evening.

Baydog, I'm howling at the moon! Simple syrup? Are you mad? ....at least you make your own drinks, unlike those other two guys.

Instead of a Ciapirinha, I'll toast the Tillerman's momentous event with a Brazilian Bombshell or two.

Oh, I forgot, here is the proper recipe for a Caipirinha.

What do I need, Joe?:
1 lime quartered
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 shot of cachaça
1/2 Cup of ice cubes with water

How do I make it?:
Place the lime and sugar in the bottom of a glass.
Using the handle of a wooden spoon, muddle (crush and mash)
the limes. Pour in the cachaça and add ice. Stir well.

Now drink up, and forget about Simple Syrup!

I'll have another double shot! said...

The previous comment escaped from my hands. Somehow the keyboard got away from me, and ran down the street with my identity.

Pour me another drink, Joe: So you enjoy the small amount of undissolved sugar that crunches every time you take a sip of that Brazilian masterpiece? I must agree. However, when in a rush with many Caipirinhas on order, the syrup can make life easier.

A toast to your 300,000th. (Sorry, it will have to be with iced mugicha).

In brazil they NEVER use syrup.
Even when the make crazy capoirinhas (like using sake and berries instead of lime and cachaca) the dont use sugar

Happy ter-mill-centenary or something like that -- this is somewhat like a birthday anniversary for Proper Course since views are more important than days or years in the blogosphere.

Thanks Pat. That's the way I look at it too.

I never know what to get someone for their 300,000th birthday.

By then, they've got all the fondue sets they need.
