Best line from tonight's season finale of Celebrity Apprentice: Good night and we'll see you next fall with the "Real Apprentice".
Duct Tape, WD 40, Rice Cakes, and a piece of styrofoam can pretty much save anyone from dying in most situations. And if there's no styrofoam, the rice cakes will suffice.
And now, I too, will go to bed. Where have I heard that before?
Actually, I have encountered duct tape on ducts. Friends of ours in Dickinson, Texas, had severe damage to their home during Hurricane Alicia, including their roof being broken loose from the house and shifted a couple of feet. When they went to repair the damage, they discovered that, when the house had been built, apparently the contractor hadn't had the right pieces of hardware to complete the air-conditioning system. Where one duct was supposed to branch into two, the two branches had been shoved into the larger stem, and duct tape had been used to hold everything together, along with a bit of fiberglass insulation to sort of plug the gaps.
These people always wondered why the two back bedrooms never seemed to have adequate cooling.
Corollary: never pass up an opportunity to buy duct tape in other colors, especially in black: very useful in repairing clothing chewed by Dobermans as in shoes and hats. On boats gray tape looks like repair but black tape looks like factory-installed!
I'm amazed to discover that this post is receiving an extraordinary number of hits today, almost exclusively from search engines searching on terms similar to the title of this post.
Apparently I am not the only one who noticed this apparently trivial line in last night's showing of LOST. It seems like many of the Losties were so moved by the line that they just had to Google it when they got to work this morning! Or are there actually thousands of people searching on "I believe in duct tape" every day?
I wasn't trolling for traffic when I wrote the post. Honest. It was just a throwaway comment before I went to bed.

I swear I didn't read the 2006 post before writing WD 40. I've been saying that since the WD 80's.
Food for thought: Have you ever seen Duct Tape on any of your ducts?
Awesome Line!
We all need something to believe in.
And why not something that's consistent, reliable, waterproof, and a very inexpensive replacement for a broken zipper?

Meanwhile, there's the extended simile:
Duct tape is like The Force: There is a light side and a dark side, and it binds the universe together.

What a weird world we live in!
For any repairs one's toolbox only needs:
Pliers
Hammer
Duct tape
WD-40
Hmmm, duct tape! Thank you for the idea. I have a new post in mind for tomorrow's Tillerman Tuesday.
I once made a Xena costume out of duct tape.
Picture please EV, or it didn't happen.
Duct tape is essential and should be in everyone's emergency kit.
Where there's damage, the Duct-er can fix it.
I believe Mythbusters succeeded in not only using duct tape to plug holes in boats, but also in building a duct-tape sailboat and sailing it.
