It's someone from Seattle named Schulman who owns a Pearson 38 and a J/100 and who is a proponent of wearing helmets while sailing out there where it gets bumpy and scary. He got in the habit of wearing helmets for sailing as a windsurfer. Apparently, windsurfers are smarter than the rest of us.
Personally, I think it's the beard that makes him look cool, not the helmet.

Further to my point, here is another old guy in a helmet and he does not look cool.
Why? No beard.
The beard, though a bit grayer, is what made me think of you. But I like you in the knit cap better.
