Good Day for a Run

It's one of my favorite regattas this weekend.

Let's see what the weather forecast says.

Hope there's some good wind.

The wind will be very light.

Then it will get even lighter.

Then it will shift almost 180 degrees,

Then it will have another huge shift.

Then it might rain.

Hmmm.

I think I'll go for a run now.

Yes, but that puts you stuck at 37 sailing dates for 2013 with less than hals the year to go! What's up with that?

I guess I should have said my non-target (it's not a real goal or anything serious like that you understand) is for 100 "quality" sailing days in a year.

It would be very easy to drag the Laser to the bay, sit in it for an hour drifting around in no wind, then drag it back home in order to achieve some artificial target. What would be the point?

It would be sad if you lived your life based on the often inaccurate forecasts of the weather bureau.

What are weather forecasts for if not to give you some information to help you to decide on how to spend your day in the most enjoyable, useful or constructive way?

They don't rule my life but the forecasts for the current day are usually a good enough guide to decide whether to sail or run or do some gardening or take my wife for an alfresco lunch or write some blog posts or some combination of the above.

In the end I had a good workout on a running trail in the morning. Not sad at all.

What about the other folks at your favorite regatta?

As far as I can tell from what I see on the Internet, the weather forecast was accurate.

20 sailors showed up to race and three races were completed. Good luck to them. I hope they had as enjoyable a day as I did.
