Where am I?

Clue #1 The area in the top left of the overhead view can be explored on Google Street View. Here is what you can see in front of the right-hand building.

Past,present or future? What continent?

High above a harbor with ships, next to a canal.

Well done Baydog. That's exactly what it is. Of course I'm not really there. I found this place on Google Maps. Your challenge if you choose to accept it is to deduce exactly where it is.

Good questions...

1. This is a Google Maps satellite image. I have no idea what date it was snapped, but I have no reason to believe that this is not how this place looks today. How could it be in the future?

2. What continent does it look like? Are there any clues in the picture?

Tillerwoman just guessed the country!

That's not entirely fair. If Tillerwoman doesn't know how you think by now, well then.......

When are you gonna do another food quiz or anagram thingy?

The satellite image is from 2010 and the shot of the building is from 2009 - at least that is what the embedded Google copyright shows.

Somewhere in Europe - probably the Netherlands.

Did Tillerwoman say 'The Netherlands' by any chance?

I could meet you there in half an hour? It's blowing 13 knots and it feels like spring for the first time this year :)

Could be the Netherlands somewhere. It's not the new Torch factory (Orange Performance Sailcraft) at Farmsum is it?

Vaughn said...

it's in the Netherlands perhaps? it looks so perfectly groomed... maybe a boat builder by the looks of the building itself...?

My first question was asking had you been there, are you there or will you be there in response to "Where am I". You have already indicated that you aren't there.

Is this somewhere in New York, part of the canal system?

Tillerman said...

Sorry Genie. Misunderstood your question.

Tillerman said...

Well done everyone. It is indeed in the Netherlands.

It is a boat builder.

And Oztalys guessed it. The European builder of the Kirby Torch will be Orange Performance Sailcraft in Farmsum. The Kirby Torch website says that the boat will be "built under the supervision" of an existing boat builder Nautisch Centrum Delfzijl and this is a view of their site in Farmsum.

Andrew, are you really that close?

Google Maps says 42 minutes to Farmsum from Hoogkerk, by car.
Or we could take the barge and be there tomorrow lunchtime.

You can't fool me. It's on the Erie Canal and it's a secret naval base for stealth barges.

Shhhhhhhhhhh! Other people can see what you write on the Interwebs.

Yay, hope the prize is Dutch chocolates :)

I hear that re-branding is in full swing at PSA.

Tillerman said...

You mean PSA are switching over to making Torches as quickly as they can? Any word on when you will be able to buy one?
