Speechless

I'm all psyched up. The sailing gear is packed in the car. The Laser is on the trailer. Today Tillerwoman and I are towing the boat from New Jersey to Massachusetts to my son's house. Then on Saturday my son and I are going to sail in the May Madness Regatta at Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Massachusetts. It will be the first time we have raced together in the same Laser regatta since he was in high school ten years ago.

All ready to go. Just check my email before we leave home. I read this...

Hi Tillerman,
Due to the 100% chance of rain and extraordinarily dreary forecast for the next three days, we have decided to cancel May Madness for this year.

We will have the Last Blast Regatta in October, so we hope to see you all then...

Best Regards,
Regatta Chairperson
I'm speechless.

I second that...wimps!

Laser sailing is mainly about pain...rain is nothing.

So they wimped out...doesn't mean that you have to stay home. I hope you're bringing Tillerwoman up to see her gradndaughter. :D

Have you ever been to Quannapowet (sp?)? I have raced the famous Chaos regatta there in 110's (actually in the same boat the regatta was named for before it sank off of Jamestown a couple of years ago). It is on a tiny lake in Wakefield Mass, and the club itself has steadily lost its sailing roots over the years and is now sadly more of a social club than anything else. The people there are very nice, and I've always had a good time there, however it does not surprise me that they cancelled. They cancelled the Chaos regatta for the last two years too...

Do you know the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club?

Do you race on the lake?

any man who has his own hiking bench can and will go sailing in the rain. Go anyway and laugh maniacally while they watch from the club bar, fearful of the Mad Englishman in a Laser.

Thinking about your name, have you ever sailed with a wheel? It's funny the darned things work backwards from what you'd expect...turn left to go left, how does that work?

Go. Launch.

Find another boat on the water.

Then, by definition, you'll have a race.

Who needs a stinkin' race committee. (Uttered perhaps because I have RC duty tomorrow!)

the scandinavians say there ain't no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. or something like that. they should have had the race and let the skippers decide to go or not.

weak.

Thnaks for all the comments. Yes Dan - we are still getting together as a family this weekend. Eliboat - thanks for the update on Quannapowitt - I've never been there before. Yes Lynne - I know Lake Hopatcong YC well and have raced there - why do you ask? Edward and Pat - you're probably right - we should have sailed but suspect the access to the lake is private. Jarrett and Og - couldn't agree more - never heard of a regatta being cancelled because the sailors might get wet - eliboat's comment may explain.

They don't cancel races because the sailors might get wet -- they cancel them because the race committee might get wet -- they often don't have the right gear...
