In 30 years of living back east, the only serious hurricane I went through was Hazel, back in the mid-fifties, when I was just a tot.
It was a category 4 when it struck the Carolinas, and did huge damage on the coast there mainly from storm surge, but by the time it reached Pennsylvania, most of the damage was from flooding, not wind.
Ironically, it caused more havoc in Toronto, mainly because the Canadians were unprepared for dealing with hurricanes. I wonder why.
Take heart - if things get tough, the WPA will come to your rescue.

At least I now understand why everyone buys all the bread they can before a storm. That's a lotta sandwiches ...
