Janu Sirsasana

This is the stretch that I have found, over the years, gives me the greatest relief from stiffness - and sometimes pain - in the lower back after Laser sailing. I also find that doing this stretch before sailing generally reduces the amount of stiffness I feel after sailing.

You can actually do this? I would have to sever hamstring muscle or get leg about one half meter shorter. Is there starter version?

My wife says this is "easy" and proved it with quick demonstration.

Kristjan - Like many yoga stretches, a lot of people can't do the full movement at first but if you practice regularly you will find that over time you can stretch further and further.

After my recent back injury I certainly couldn't do this fully (at least not on one side.) But I kept doing the best I could every couple of days and eventually gained back the full flexibility I had before.

By the way, are you the same Kristjan that I sometimes say hi to on SailX?

Tiller - seems reasonable advice - will give a try.

Yes, same Kristjan, now fully retired.

you can start by simply grabbing the toe, or if that isn't so simply, put a towel or belt around your foot.

Yoga and sailing go together!
