Breakfast of Champions

So far the US Olympic Sailing Team has won only one gold medal. And the winner of that was a girl.

I don't think that our guys are eating properly. They should copy that annoying Phelps kid who has won all those gold medals for swimming. Just check out what he eats every day for breakfast...

Three fried egg sandwiches; cheese; tomatoes; lettuce; fried onions; mayonnaise; three chocolate-chip pancakes; five-egg omelet; three sugar-coated slices of French toast; bowl of grits; two cups of coffee.

Sounds good to me. If it's fast for the Phelps kid it should be fast for Laser sailing, right?

I start my new diet tomorrow.

(1) Would you call Anna a "girl" to her face? Not me!

(2) Second in the Finn was also quite an accomplishment.

(3) Come to the Labor Day Buoy Bash at Heron Lake and you can probably get Carol Anne to whip up all the chocolate chip pancakes you can eat.

(1) No way!

(2) Sure was. What does Zach eat for breakfast?

(3) Thanks for the invite, but we will be in England at a family wedding on Labor Day weekend. The bride is a vegetarian and so all the food at the wedding reception will be vegetarian. But I'm hoping that the hotel we are staying at will be able to make me my three fried egg sandwiches and five-egg omelet for breakfast.

Tiller,

Were you to adopt the diet below I suspect you would soon begin to resemble Bibendum of Michelin tyre fame. After some time on this diet new sailing opportunity would abound:

1. anchor for Queen Mary
2. ballast

Mr. Ainslie I understand survives entirely on Uncrustables and tepid water.

132. I am taking retirement seriously.

Best wishes.

"BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhuanet)-- Mega-Olympian Michael Phelps packs in 12,000 calories a day to fuel his medal-winning.

So let's see what Michael Phelps eats in a day.

His breakfast: a large bowl of porridge; three doorstep-sized sandwiches of white bread, butter, fried egg, fried onion, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise; a five-egg omelette tastefully garnished with parsley; three slices of French toast liberally sprinkled with sugar; three pancakes topped with chocolate chips; and two large cups of coffee.

Next to it is lunch, which consists of 1lb (that's a very large bowl) of pasta with tomato sauce; two large ham-and-cheese sandwiches with more lettuce, tomato and don't forget the mayo; plus four bottles of a proprietary high-energy sports drink.

For dinner, it's another pound of pasta, a large cheese-and-tomato pizza, and another four bottles of the same proprietary high-energy sports drink.

The average adult man, depending on age, height and weight, requires between 2,200 and 2,800 calories a day. According to most media estimates, Phelps's daily intake - the three meals described above - amounts to around 12,000 calories.
