Am I missing something, or is this pretty mediocre laser sailing?

I don't get it.

What's this HEAVY air nonsense?

These are mild summer conditions. Shorts and tee shirt weather. A walk in the park. A day at the beach.

Come on out, the water's fine!

There was I wondering how you can gybe in those conditions without capsizing when the video gave me the answer... you don't.

Or at least I wouldn't!

It is what it is.

Ok, the Laser Media site has a couple more videos of that 2008 Slalom, this one is my favorite.
The "original" (actually a bootleg of the original but with a better sound track) can be found here.
Finally, those that think the sailing is "mediocre" are invited to participate in this Summer's Slalom, to be held immediately preceding the Master Worlds!

PS In the 2008 Slalom video I linked above, note the downwind style Brad Funk showcases at the end. I predict in just a few short years we'll all sail downwind this way!

Far from mediocre, I think. Pretty damn cool.

Uh oh. Now you've gone and done it, SoxSail and O Docker. The Godfather of the Laser Class has made you an offer you can't refuse. I look forward to posting video here of both of you sailing in the 2011 Laser Heavy Air Slalom.

That Brad Funk is such a poser!

Do I get a free hat?

Well SFBayLaser, if you mean jump into the water when things get hairy downwind them, yes that is something I can see myself doing.

If you mean stand-up in a cool way.... that's far from mediocre and therefore much less likely!

Oh yeah baby, those crazy Laser sailors. Mr. Sox, can you say, "hay mucho viento?" You should see the big boys getting knocked-down. Hay mucho viento!

O, would you like a sticker instead?

Much as i admire the men and women involved for their skill etc - the original 1970's video is still the 'daddy' for so many reasons!

This reminds me, whatever happened to having to pay for a new lower mast section?
