Last Man Standing

It doesn't make any sense to sing this song while sitting down, does it?

Tillerwoman says JB was being "ironic."

I think he's just getting old.

As we age we hang closer to the chair so that when the music stops we won't be without. The joke will be on the last man standing. :)

I think I am right in saying that Buffet first performed this song in public in encores at some concerts on his 2001 tour. (It was later released on his 2002 album Far Side of the World.)

I have a bootleg copy (downloaded from Napster many years ago) of his performance of the song at Madison Square Garden in November 2001. He dedicated it to the NYC police and firefighters and it sounded like a very emotional occasion, coming so soon after 911. In that context it was a lot more inspirational than the "old man sitting down on a chair" version in this video.

As a Laser Great Grandmaster now (have been all week!) I am starting to think that one day I might be "the last man standing." I am already the oldest sailor at some Laser regattas these days.

Today I wimped out of sailing a regatta. Winds too light!

I'm with you Panda. Irony aside, at my age, I do everything better sitting down.

Since your Laser doesn't require crew other than yourself, you can afford to duck out of a race. I can't, as much as I might want to. I feel my crew needs & feeds on the certainty that we will at least show up on the starting line for every race on our calendar.
