Flooded foundation of the Freedom Tower

Good guess Baydog, but no cigar.

It's a landscape!

Baydog said...

Foundation for the 2012 Olympic Sailing Center in Weymouth.

Tillerman said...

Bonnie - it is indeed a landscape. Or at least some people think so. This photo won a prize in a photographic competition in the "landscape" category. But some of the other competitors felt that it shouldn't have been allowed in that category.

Baydog - you are getting warmer, but still no cigar.

Hmm... someone with Dock in their name really should be able to sort this out.

Tillerman said...

Hmmm. I think some of my Facebook friends know where I got this photo from and know the answer.

Duh! Some days I amaze myself with how stupid I am.

Who took the photo?

Tillerman said...

Kathleen took the photo.

I would recuse myself if I knew what recuse meant.

Given that it's a pic of rebar sticking up out of concrete, I'm with the unhappy competitors.

Steve in Baltimore
(who's been known to occasionally enter photo contests)

Well it seems that Baydog and Steve are much smarter than me. I stared at this photo for ages without realizing what it is which is indeed "rebar sticking up out of concrete."

I thought perhaps that some readers might be as mystified as me and have some more creative answers.

The site is actually quite a famous construction, so I won't reveal the full answer of where it is just yet. Someone might recognize it.

Here are a couple of clues.

1. I have been to the spot where the photo was taken and have even written about the experience on this blog.

2. One of the frequent commenters on this blog lives quite close to the site of the picture.

A certain stadium in Philadelphia?

WV: oystipsi. What I become at a raw bar.

Tillerman said...

Nope Baydog. Good guess though. I did write about visiting Philadelphia and you do live quite close to Philly. But the photo wasn't taken in Philadelphia.

I'm so vain.
I promptly thought the blog was about me

Clouds in my coffee dude. Clouds in my coffee.

Joe said...

Who is Kathleen? Is she your friend Kathy?

Tillerman said...

If you mean my Facebook friend Kathy, no.

I don't know Kathleen. I have never met Kathleen. I just stole her photo because I thought it looked watery and would look good on my watery blog.

Have they started to refurbish the waterfront in San Francisco where Larry plans to pitch his tent?

Brant Beach Yacht Club

WV: pully

Not sure that anyone knows what's going on with Cup preparations. There are many sites for many purposes that will be developed to varying schedules. There are administrative offices, sites for the teams, sites for public functions. Some are ready to be built on, others will take heavy renovation, with requisite environmental reviews first.

But what does this have to do with a photo quiz? And who is this mysterious Kathleen person? Will I ever catch up with Rocky Rococo? And who am I talking to?

Tillerman said...

Not San Francisco. From what I am reading, the San Franciscans are still trying to work out the costs of the deal they did with Larry. I don't think anyone's pouring concrete out there yet.

And that looks like a hell of a big clubhouse for the Jersey shore. Sorry not Brant Beach.

I guess I've written about lots of places on this blog. That really wasn't much of a clue was it?

Baydog said...

So how bout one more clue?

Tillerman said...

OK, here is another clue...

What do Ben Ainslie and the Round the Island Race have in common? You see, the photo does have a sailing connection after all.

Baydog said...

Is it a building somewhere in Great Britain?

My hat and I are going to bed now.

Joe said...

JP Morgan?

Baydog said...

Joe, you woke me up. I actually was gonna say that but....too obscure?

Canary Wharf?

Go to sleep Dog! zzzzzzz

Joe said...

It is Riverside South (Canary Wharf). I just found a photo.

Your clue lead me to J.P. Morgan. Who sponsors both Ben Ainslie and the Round the Island Race. Then I did a search for "J.P. Morgan construction." This lead me to Wikipedia's article on Riverside South (Canary Wharf). Finally, I did an image search which confirmed that the photo is indeed of Riverside South (Canary Wharf).

Case closed. Do I get a hat?

Chris Partridge said...

What a brilliant picture, and not just because it is a great composition of contrasting textures and shapes. It encapsulates the vaulting ambition and humiliating crash of the financial sector - this is all that has been built of what was going to be one of the tallest towers in Europe. J.P. Morgan have moved somewhere else.

JP said...

I guess I should have known that, but obviously didn't.

Great picture though - the rapidly rising Shard is becoming a great object to photograph.

Fred said...

My first thought was: Ground Zero... but reading through the intelligent responses I have doubts...

Amazing how posts with a question mark are pulling comments.

Tillerman said...

Well done Joe. Perfect. You certainly deserve a hat. Maybe a JP Morgan hat?

JP - I really thought you would get this one. It's almost in your back yard!

Baydog - how could someone with "dog" in their name not get this? The site is on the Isle of Dogs! Ha ha. Just joking. It's a tough question without the Ainslie/Island clue.

Fred and Baydog - Ground Zero and Freedom Tower were actually very smart answers. After all, the picture is of foundations for a very tall skyscraper.

Thanks to all who had a go. Fred is right. These little quizzes do seem to generate lots of comments. Maybe I will do some more.

It's a penguin.

PeconicPuffin said...

and what do you mean "Well done, Joe"? Have you seen his blog? No fish. No wahines. He's been wasting his time sleuthing this photo mystery.

O Docker said...

I agree with Puffin.

These time-wasting exercises are leading to the moral degradation of our nation's youth.

While he was working on this, Joe was probably neglecting his bourbon, too.

Joe said...

I never neglect my bourbon....wait, I have been neglecting it. I'm out! Damn that quiz!!!!

Standby, the Wahines will arrive shortly.

J.P. Morgan? Wow. I am so sorry I spent time googling this one, but very glad I kept my foot out of my mouth by not posting a guess.

J.P. Morgan? the financial terrorists who took a who knows how many billion dollar bailout? Crash J.P. Morgan. Buy silver.;^)

Tillerman said...

That's right Panda, the financial terrorists. But they can't be all bad. They do sponsor sailing.
