Dear Scuttlebutt

Dear Scuttlebutt,

Thanks for the spike...

Thanks for recirculating my tongue-in-cheek letter to the Sunfish Class about some ideas they could pursue to make the Sunfish more popular. As you can see, thanks to your support, two or three thousand extra readers stopped by my blog in the last few days to read that post. (Or actually to check out the pictures of Sir Paul's new squeeze in her bikini, I suspect.)

As far as I can tell from my Sitemeter stats, some of them also stayed a while and browsed some other posts on the blog. I wonder how many, if any, will become regular readers.

Anyway, thanks for the spike in traffic.

Best thing for the Sunfish class to do is adopt some changes to the boat - like switching to Lasers! :-)

They are trying Brian. In the last 20 years or so they have adopted a more efficient sail and daggerboard, changed to white sails for racing, allowed adjustable outhaul and downhaul, changed the hull design to have roll-over gunwhales instead of that abominable aluminum trim, plus probably a few more I can't remember.

Every single one of these changes makes the Sunfish more like a Laser. If this trend continues the boats will be identical in another twenty years.

Thanks for the nod. For fun, I thought I would google "Dear Scuttlebutt".

Interesting results, like a 2002 Scuttlebutt letter reprinted on a Greenpeace website, and a story on a lesbian site titled. "Getting Women Off."

I really need to get back to work.
