We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

If you have a hankering for a bigger boat you could always try this option. Just saw your boat in half and add a new section in the middle. Of course you don't need to go to the extremes of the Royal Caribbean International cruise line who decided to add 73 feet to the middle of Enchantment of the Seas using this method.

Are you sure this isn't a violation of class rules?

Oh that's right -- cruise line class rules probably all have to do with making money and never running out of food on the buffet lines.

You know, the Edmund Fitzgerald had the same kind of surgery not too long before going down. I'm not sure I'd want to be on a ship that had undergone a length extension of this sort.

But then, the most reliable car I've ever owned was actually, I later found out, two half-cars that had been welded together. So maybe it's not the procedure itself that matters, as much as the competence of the welders.
