Laser Girls for Friday

Gold fleet start in the Laser Radial Women's Worlds currently being sailed in Japan.

What's that you say? You can't see the girls?

Ah, but you know they are female sailors because of those little red diamonds on their sails. Thank the Laser Class for that little visual aid which is such a boon for folk who tend to get confused about the difference between boys and girls.

So you see, Sherman, contrary to popular belief, the common gemstone had nothing to do with it, and now you know the true inspiration for the lyrics of the famous song:

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend

Sadly Mr. Peabody the bureaucrats of the Laser class failed to appreciate this inspirational reason for asking girls to wear "diamonds". On re-checking my Laser class rules I see that the shape that you see in the picture is actually referred to as a "rhombus". If you see a Laser sail with one, two or three "diamonds", it has a totally different meaning.

Please refer to you Laser Class Rule book for more details and to gain a deeper appreciation of the difference between a diamond and a rhombus.

Does the "rhombus" have to do with a 4.8 or radial sail or does it have to do with having a lady at the controls?
