Unfit

This classic from Mike Belkin's comic strip Unfit (actually published on January 3) reminded me of all that talk last month of new year resolutions, and goals, and establishing new habits like getting fit for sailing.

So, dear reader, how are you doing with your resolutions? Comments please.

Hmmmm, what are the exercises that would represent specific training for cruisers> Of course, there's the big Igloo ice chest drag that could be practiced in my back yard. I could also fill up a couple of bags of laundry and put the treadmill on a slope setting to simulate carrying laundry up out of a marina. Then there's Carol Anne's favorite, the Cruiser's Wrist Curl with 12-ounce weights (consumable contents).

Tillerman, check out today's version of Latitude 38. Some laser pictures you might appreciate down near the bottom of the page.

I will be meeting with my trainer for another session tomorrow.

I'm still coping with the vestiges of the flu that I caught about New Years, so I haven't done much with the conditioning, but I sure have been getting in workouts with the sailing team.

Since I finished second last week in my first ever time at the helm, I think I'm going to add one more item to my list: beat Larry. (Thanks for the idea, Tillerman.)

I have become quite proficient at walking 150 feet from my air-conditioned car to my air conditioned office. And then back. Pretty much my daily regimen.

Winter sailing season sucks. I need to get back on the water.

Isn't this the one time of year when Houston is bearable without air conditioning?
